FlashBuddy Posted March 20, 2019 Report Posted March 20, 2019 After rebuilding my Arvin heater, it occasionally leaks a half ounce of fluid - I expect it is a leak in the core. What is the best way to stop the coolant flow through the heater? I was thinking to simply shut off one or both petcocks? Showing the two petcock locations. Quote
Radarsonwheels Posted March 21, 2019 Report Posted March 21, 2019 You could get a male/male hosebarb adaptor and run the lines into each other- one’s 1/2 and one’s 5/8 right? So just running a short loop os a no-go. That’s what I would do, then fix the heater at your leisure. If you live where its always warm then just take out the hosebarbs and plug em. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 21, 2019 Report Posted March 21, 2019 Since you have 2 valves, that is the obvious answer. Close them both. If you are worried about them not closing completely, you could also disconnect your hoses from the heater and connect them together as Radaronwheels mentioned. Quote
FlashBuddy Posted March 21, 2019 Author Report Posted March 21, 2019 Thanks guys. I was worried that there might be a hidden process going on that I didn't know about, kinda like no thermostat makes your engine run hotter, not cooler. Sounds like I can shut 'em off and be ok until I get that core sorted. Quote
