I asked that incorrectly, .  What if the cam itself was different than the original cam.

Generally speaking the lift duration and overlap of the cam profile will determine its performance from that of stock which is a best all around general purpose to those that develop their power at a various RPM in which you plan to operate the vehicle.  You should go to a good web site and read, years ago Crane had a very good white paper on the ins and out of cams that was written very well. It is worth the read I assure you.

The basic benefits and higher lift and more duration which allow more air and fuel into the engine. The crazy stuff occurs with the lobe overlap and separation which I don't fully understand.
