King pin dust caps

Ok so whats the depth of these caps. I drilled into one and brock a bit. Then tried a punch and the cap won't come out. Am I doing something wrong? There just thin pieces of metal aren't they.

You may have drilled into the king pin.

Ya probably but still these can't be that hard to get off.

Yes just thin soft steel . Perhaps your cap is gone and your are drilling into the king pin ?

No I got it off finally. Drilled and got punch in there. Popped up after couple wacks with hammer.

I am looking for a new king pin cap one of mine fell off any heads up where I can find one or two thanks.  Neil

 Well they look just like a freeze plug for the flat heads only smaller . Perhaps measure and see if it is a common freeze plug size . There is a small freeze plug mounted over the temperature gauge ether bulb in the head , perhaps it is the same size .

On the car side, for a lot of years they used part number 103894 for the "steering knuckle king pin oil seal plug".

 

That turns out to be a 1 inch expansion (freeze/welch/core) plug. See http://www.ply33.com/Parts/group18#103894 Last I checked, the cross was to a Dorman 550-012.

 

Maybe the trucks used that too.
