38plymouth Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 I never thought I would want to add signals to this car, but, I'm thinking it would be safer to have them. I see they sell a switch that mounts to the steering column and it looks like I would have to replace the tail light bulbs for the rear. How do you add signals to the front? I have nothing but headlights and I'm not adding any ugly yellow lights up there. Is there another way??? Quote
Young Ed Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Couple guys I know with mid 30s mopars are running these little turn signal lights made for motorcycles. They are about an inch or maybe a little bigger around and they have them clamped onto the bumper brackets. Nice chrome housing with I think a yellow lense. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 There are various types of small lights out there, including what Ed said. Just look around some on the internet and on ebay. Quote
Guest jtw3749c Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 I have 37 Plymouth with turn signals on it. Course mine is a street rod. But the point is, I kept the body and all original. So what I did for my front turn lights (to keep them from being an eye sore) is put them in behind my grill. I made a bracket that mounts on the stud that holds the stock headlight on and mounted the small square hot rod lights there. You can't really see them, but you can see the turn light very well. Hope it gives you some idea for yours. Quote
david lazarus Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 I used high brightness LED lights, these are about 1 inch by 1 1/2 inches totally self contained and able to be placed directly onto my bumpers. This way no holes or anything were drilled in the car. They are very good, and VERY bright but I would also comment that they are quite directional so if someone is a 45 degrees to you the lights are not great. Can e-mail you pictures and a link to the supplier if you want. Quote
RobertKB Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 As mentioned in one of the posts, you can add the little motorcycle signal lights. I just changed the bulbs to 6 volts and made brackets to mount them on the bumper brackets of my '38 Chrysler. I put a new harness in the car from Y'n'Z and they included the signal light wires in the harness. It can also be done separately as you will probably have to do. Quote
builtfercomfort Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 I was riding in a car yesterday that almost hit another (at a 4-way stop) because they could not see the turn signals. Big turn signals are ugly, I agree, but small ones could get your car dented. I'm not sure at all what I'm going to do, I'm thinking of small bullet-shaped lights on the fender tops and the largest motorcycle type I can find on the front bumper. I'm also looking at 5 inch round Guide lamps (yellow lens fog lamps) if I can get them looking okay and not putting out 55 watts - I have not found any I can convert to bulbs or LEDs (at least in my price range). If anyone has some sources, please let me know. Quote
Normspeed Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 My P24 has factory turn signals but I still use the old fashioned arm signals in touchy situations. Most people still seem to know what the left turn and stop mean. Like with motorcycles, best method is to drive as if everyone else on the road was out to get you. Quote
