we just recently did a check on the oilpump, oil pressure valve, cleaned the oilpan and the oil suction, device (don't know the correct name...), changed some gaskets, oil filter housing, etc...

Do we have to take special measures if we start the engine again (after filling her with fresh oil off course..) I mean do we have to prime the pump/suction tube in any way or just start the engine and check oil pressure?

As always... any advise is greatly appreciated!

Yes, you should prime the pump before installing it. To do so, submerge the body of the pump in oil and turn the gear until all the air bubbles disappear from the suction and discharge ports and then install it.

Next best option is remove all the spark plugs and spin the engine in short bursts until you see pressure on the gauge.

Or even do both.

What worked fifty years ago, pack the pump with Vaseline or grease before you put it on.

Free advice is worth what you paid for it.

That's what I do. Haven't had a problem yet!
