Batterzazu Posted May 27, 2017 Report Posted May 27, 2017 I am having trouble with my 1 1/2 ton brakes. I have rebuilt the master cylinder and one wheel cylinder. I have a rock solid brake pedal, i left off just a bit and then it slowly fades to the floor. Weird thing is i have absolutley NO BRAKES at all. I have bled the brakes and have minimal fluid coming out. I disconnected the line before the booster and pedal went straight to the floor and squirted brake fluid everywhere. I disconnected the line after the booster and the same result. if i open a bleeder it should go to the floor quickly but it doesn't? Front two brake lines are brand new as well. 1953 1 1/2 ton Dodge Pilothouse Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 28, 2017 Report Posted May 28, 2017 Did you have the booster rebuilt properly ? If not you should. Quote
Akmark Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 If it is bleeding off slowly with your foot on the pedal I would think that the master cylinder is your problem. Quote
classiccarjack Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 About 7 years ago, I put a brand new master cylinder on a 1949 Power Wagon that I restored. The pedal would slowly go to the floor. I pulled it and dismantled it and realized that this thing was made in Taiwan. Feeling disappointed, I sleeved the original master cylinder with a bronze sleeve and rebuilt it. Problem solved! I hope this helps... 1 Quote
Batterzazu Posted June 3, 2017 Author Report Posted June 3, 2017 Thanks guys, booster is definitely a problem and I am going to sleeve my master cylinder as well. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted June 3, 2017 Report Posted June 3, 2017 If the frame mount booster were to fail on the road....oh boy! The engine vacuum will suck all the fluid out of the master cylinder while driving and guess what?????? No brakes! Been there twice ...done that twice. You will see a HUGE cloud of white smoke growing behind you and cars disappearing in that cloud! 2 Quote
