Johnny S Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 I was checking out a local engine machine shop today that came highly recommended from two different auto parts places. I'm looking for someone to do the machine work on the 218 I'm messing with. As we were talking about what I wanted the fellow I was talking to mentioned that he had a completely rebuilt (by them) flathead 6 that he would be willing to part with. He knew that it was not a P18 serial number though. This engine was a customer engine that was never paid for. I said I wasn't interested (I'm wanting to stick with P18 numbered engines) but would bounce it off the P15-D24 group tonight to see if anyone reading here might be. I took a look at the engine and saw that it is in fact a P15 block. I CAN NOT attest to what's inside....I'll let whoever is interested talk to the vendor directly but the guy I talked to indicated that they had done the machine work AND the assembly. They may be willing to offer a warranty of some sort it sounded like but he wasn't specific...just said...."well, we built it...we can probably do something like that". He spoke of new valves, new hardened seats, and "all" other new parts......I didn't see a parts list however so don't know exactly what that may mean....you will need to get comfortable with what they have done to the engine. I did see that the engine didn't have an oil pan (it is wrapped up however) and of course no carb or distributor. I didn't notice if it had a water pump or not. I don't know them personally. I just talked to them for the first time today. However, they do come highly recommended as locally one of the best machine shops. They do build engines for local racers and I have seen a handful of street rods that they have built as well....very nice stuff. They show at some of the instate Goodguys events and have trophy class cars. Punch line: - I think the engine can be had for under $1100 plus shipping and they do drop ship, freight collect. If you are interested in their contact information PM me. Quote
Johnny S Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 PS - the engine is located in Loveland, Colorado (about 50 miles south of Cheyenne, Wyoming). Quote
claybill Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 by 'longblock' do you mean the 25" motor. or a 23" with pistons and cam etc..? bill Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 it being stamped P15 says it is the smaller length and his reference to long block means that it is complete with head and oil pan..usually only the accessories are left to bolt on.. Quote
Normspeed Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 At that price, if I were looking for a motor I'd grab it. Maybe a gamble but sounds like a decent shop doing the work. Hmmm, it's 1,000 miles up the road from me, round trip would be maybe $500 in gas for the Bronco.... Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 If that engine is rebuilt that one hell of a good deal! I spent 1800 dollars on mine and that was probably 10 years ago. It would even pay to have it shipped to wherever. Jon Quote
Normspeed Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Yeah, I paid more than twice that much for my local shop to rebuild to long block. Quote
Johnny S Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 Yes, as Tim indicated the block is the 23 inch long version....the Plymouth version. And for those of you looking to keep a P15 engine in your P15....I did see the serial number and its definately a P15. Also, as Tim indicated you would have to add on all of your own accessory parts.....it's just the block and head....assembled. No generator, no starter, no distributor....etc. I think they will deal as well...thats why I said..."less than $1100". They don't "normally" do these older engines... although they did tell me that they do work on Model A and Model T engines quite often. John Quote
1just4don Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 before jumping in the family buggy to go get this,,,I would def. check shipping prices. IF shipping is less than gas cost,,,not hard to get there, shipping is way cheaper and NO T.B. The guy in Georgia said he got a discounted rate of $300 for an engine, clutch and tranny!! to Nebraska. I didnt think freight could be had that cheap,,,I couldnt drive thre forTHAT!! Quote
