knuckleharley Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 There is a rebuilders tag on the block of the engine in my 37 Dodge 2 ton that has "Code D-29" stamped in it. Does anyone have any idea what this means? Quote
dpollo Posted February 17, 2017 Report Posted February 17, 2017 D29 would be the prefix for the engine in a 1949 Wayfarer. Quote
knuckleharley Posted February 17, 2017 Author Report Posted February 17, 2017 Thanks. I am not sure that applies here because it is a sheet metal tag rivited to the block, and looks to be from a rebuilder. Was the D-29 stamped in the raised boss on the block on 49 Dodge cars,or was it on a riveted tag? Quote
dpollo Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 Stamped in the boss....... however rebuilders would supply a tag with the original engine number when this number was used for the title. In any case, a D29 block should be a 230 which would be a good engine to use in your truck. Quote

I had been completely ignoring this engine because it just happened to be in a 2 ton 37 truck I bought for other reasons, and had just been assuming it had the original 37 engine in it. After all, these trucks were only driven a few times a year, and mostly sat under a shelter until needed to haul the crop to the market. Then I just decided to check it last week to see what code it had on it. Just bought a 55 Plymouth 4dr last week to get the low-mileage 230,automatic trans, and rear out of it in case I lose my left leg and need an auto trans for my 42 Dodge coupe. Got lucky and found one only missing the carb,so I now have everything I will ever need to make the swap if necessary. Had a guy give me a single barrel BB carb a couple of days ago,and just bought a NOS dash pot on ebay tonight. This is the auto trans with the chrome shift lever sticking out of the dashboard. Quote

That dash shift is 55 only. Quote
