LODI3QTR
My '50 Suburban burned out a Head Light the other day, No problem I replaced it. Drove into the city during the day, When I went home at night the new Head Light burned out right away. Then I noticed my Amp Gauge had went up to +40 then back to 0 then back to +40. Drove home and lost Two dash Gauge Lights. Next day replaced another Head Light, Same thing Happened. I'm thinking the Voltage Regulator is the Problem. I've been driving the for 2 1/2 years with no lighting problem till now. Does any one have any other ideas. Thanks in advance, Mike "LODI3QTR"
Plymouthy Adams
I am thinking you need to check your output with a voltmeter and quit guessing and come to terms with the problem..
Los_Control
of course you will have to check it while it is acting up, could be only when driving. Is good to have a helper with this, while you drive ....
Plymouthy Adams
do it without the headlights and hook up your meter and have it beside you on the seat....it is not difficult...in the man time..check your regulator ground... Los_Control
uggg, forgot about the battery under the floor boards ... was thinking the helper would ride on the fender while lodi drove around the block
jeffsunzeri
Two likely culprits: Faulty regulator or mis-wired generator, assuming you have a generator system and not converted to alternator.
LODI3QTR
Thanks for the input Checked it with the Voltmeter. It was putting out 11.8 Volts at times then dropped to 7v then back up to 11.8v again. Ordered a new Regulator.... Car is all Original.
