weasel Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Is it possible to remove the steering box column etc. without removing the floor panels? I have read a lot of posts but haven't found one that specifically says. If anyone has done one of these I would appreciate the help. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 With the steering wheel removed and up on a rack it shouldn't be too hard to get it out with the floor boards still in place. Jeff Quote
NiftyFifty Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 Yep, has to move down, so just remove the wheel, and you can actually just leave the tube in place too if you want, from what I recall...but yes, has to be on a hoist to do it....maybe jacked up really high might get it...but you'd need about 3' off the ground I'd say Quote
Los_Control Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 How often does the opportunity come along, to remove and refurbish your floorboards? I would suggest, not nearly enough. I would welcome this chance, and you could remove your steering box/column while at it. Quote
MBF Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) With the steering wheel and dash support removed, drag link separated, and the front end jacked so that the front suspension isn't compressed (wheels just not touching the ground) you can remove it and reinstall w/o touching the floor panels. I've done it on my floor shifted 1 ton. With a column shift, I'm betting you have to remove the shift linkage from the column, but I don't have anything w 3 on the tree.
