John Zellmer Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 I've noticed old posts regarding nonavailability of door latch springs, but there wasn't much resolution about a source. Anyone have any ideas? I would like to replace both springs in each latch assembly with NOS or newly made. Thanks John Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted September 17, 2016 Report Posted September 17, 2016 This is a tough one as far as replacements go. I tried many spring sources with no good results. About the only thing you can do is look for salvaged latch assemblies and hope you find some with these springs still intact. I managed to do so but it took a lot of hunting. Jeff Quote
JBNeal Posted September 17, 2016 Report Posted September 17, 2016 vintage ford truck door latch spring...maybe an internet search of that might yield some interesting results Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted September 17, 2016 Report Posted September 17, 2016 I tried several springs from them and others and never found a satisfactory fit. Got a whole collection of stuff that wasn't quite right. Once I found an old latch mechanism that still had intact factory springs I finally had handles that didn't sag down. Everything got a good coat of waterproof grease before going back in 'cause rust is the enemy for this item. Jeff Quote

MBF Posted September 18, 2016 Report Posted September 18, 2016 Last year I bought a NOS set of springs for my 36 Plymouth on Ebay. They appear to be identical to those of the PH latches. I know for a fact that they fit. My dad took one of my part latches a few years ago and used the spring in his 35 Chrysler. Similar to these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1935-1936-late-Dodge-Chrysler-Plymouth-DeSoto-Door-Lock-Latch-Repair-Springs-/131917853400?hash=item1eb6eab2d8:g:xQ8AAOSwDNdVrBG5&vxp=mtr Quote
Desotodav Posted September 18, 2016 Report Posted September 18, 2016 I will get back to you via email soon John. There are 3 springs in a truck door latch (see attached photo) - one for the tongue movement (bottom rgt of photo), one for the door handle droop (bottom left of photo), and one for the locking mechanism (top of photo). 2 Quote
