casper50 Posted August 21, 2016 Report Posted August 21, 2016 I have a question on how large the gap should be between the tailpipe and fuel tank. Don't want to get things too hot. Thanks for any help. Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 21, 2016 Report Posted August 21, 2016 If you are using the Stock Mopar tailpipe hangers and muffler hangers then there should not be any issue Since the cars were originally delivered with this typw of setup and these cars were driven a lot more than we are currently driving them. If you have radically modified the exhaust system then I would still try to get an example of the original hanger and make some measurements to ensure that the tailpipe is at the correct distance from the gas tank. I would also assume that your tailpipe would be on the right side of the car and gastank so it would be away from the gasline that exits the gas tank. This was also done to eliminate the possibility that the line if leaking did not drop onto the hot tailpipe and cause a fire. This is just my 25cent worth of input. casper50 Posted August 21, 2016 Author Report Posted August 21, 2016 Rich I'm running duals all the way back. One has to go to the left. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 21, 2016 Report Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) the left side is going to be very tight between the tank and the frame not to mention the fill tube itself......I run true duals on three cars here...centered the tank on them all..one did not have a well for the spare so was bit easier and made a cradle and tube extension...the other I removed the well and pedestal mounted the spare...even at that..I chose to place a heat shield on the fill tube with a 1 inch dead space..the third has the tank relocated and zero emission certified.. if dealing with the tank in original and cramming in a pipe between the rail and the tank and under the fill tube..again, the heat shield and rigid fix the back pipe section properly joined to the front section with a product similar to below... BigDaddyO Posted August 21, 2016 Report Posted August 21, 2016 Or run both pipes down the right side and then run one pipe behind the bumper to exit out the left. Quote
