John Mulders Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 Shel, an exact fitting screw driver should be used, anything smaller will damage the screwhead. Hmm, not sure about torching them....sounds like asking for problems! A good cleaning of the edges and then a bit of soaking can't hurt. John Quote
Normspeed Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 I'm with John on that, an exact fitting screwdriver will be best, both tip thickness and blade width. Also good to clamp or otherwise hold the carb so you can concentrate on lining up, pushing hard and twisting. I would take the time to do a thorough rebuild now, while you have the time to do a good job. That's not a B&B right? Quote
norrism1 Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 Place the entire carb in a container of brake parts cleaner until you can loosen the screws. The gunk is probably on the inside holding them fast. Last resort. Quote
Normspeed Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 I would probably gently work the bend out. Especially if it's a brass shaft. Since you're doing a quality rebuild, get everything possible into original condition, even the small stuff. If your carb has more than just one ball bearing total, make sure you don't mix 'em up. Also, inspect the accelerator pump bore for scratches or burrs. I usually buff it smooth with a little piece of 3M, pad, blow it out, then a little 3-1n-1 oil. I've used the carb cleaner sprays to rebuild carbs but now I'm back to using a carb dip. I really think the dip does a better job. Quote
Normspeed Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 Good to have the two to work with. I ended up using parts from three to get two good B&Bs with no leaks, stumbles or other ailments. and matching numbers top plates. Quote
Normspeed Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 So it's better'n it was. Good work. I'm no carb guru but I've gone through some and the more time you take on details the better your carb will usually work. You're on the way! Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Here is a guy that I bought brand new parts for my carberator. I have the same style your rebuilding and he's a good guy to deal with. Jon John (Carberatorparts) potucek@optonline.net Quote
Young Ed Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Haha we were just looking at those too. Decided the 1 gal can was too weenie. Now upgrading to the 6gal pail with 5gal of carb cleaner. Dads got 2 4barrel carbs to do and there is no way they'd fit in a 1gal can. Quote
