james curl Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 On a four door car you remove the bottom cushion and have to cut holes in the rear of the seat frame for the belts to pass through. The bottom cushion rests on a ledge built into the seat frame which you will have to cut a slot into for the seat belt to pass through other wise it would have to wrap around the edge of the ledge and under the rear of the seat cushion before comming out of the seam between the two cushions. In the event of an accident the belt would give about six inches or more before becoming tight because of the give in the lower cushion, that is why it is necessary to cut the slots into the lower seat frame so that the belts can run straight down to the floor. You should remove both the back and bottom cushion to allow yourself room to work. Quote

DonaldSmith Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Here's my anchor point, with the headliner out. I don't have access to a welder, so I put the bolt behind the heavy metal and through a new hole, and secured the bolt with a nut and washer, so that the bolt acts as a stud through the headliner. Then there's a spacer on the shaft, and the seat belt anchor, and a nut. If I had a welder, I would weld a nut to a reinforcing plate and fix the plate behind the hole, so that there wouldn't be a stud protruding through the headliner. I wouldn't have to cut the headliner until I was ready to install the belt. And I would locate the anchor point forward of the post, so the belt wouldn't hang over the post light and grab bar. With the cheap shoulder belts, I clip the extra end back to the belt, so that when the belt is used it does not hang over the post. If I had the retractible belt, part of it would always be over the post, unless the retractor at the floor was mounted forward of the post. Quote
