I am rewiring on my P-19, the wire diagram shows that the wire to the brake light switch runs from the 30A circuit breaker through the brake light switch then routes to the turn signal switch (mine is the Signal Stat 800). What is the purpose of this wire going to the turn signal switch? Does it supply the current to it?

Your turn signal switch will route the signal from your brake light switch back to the rear lamps when the brakes are applied. Or it can route power to the rear lamps for turn signals when you use that switch. Turn signal voltage comes from your flasher. Or it can do a combination, with one brake light and one turn signal if you are signaling a turn and applying the brakes.

OK so the current must come into the signal switch from the 'L' side of the flasher based on the diagram. My turn signal was wired differently. Looks like the old brake light switch wire wasn't routed through the turn signal switch.

wonder if that would have been the solution with mine? post-6005-0-77710700-1461165172_thumb.jpg

I have two of these 800's and both popped off the same wire......

I'm not familiar with the 800. What I described is how my Signal Stat 900 works.

Some signal switches don't accommodate the brake light function. In those cases you would need separate brake lights and turn signal lights.

Ha, mine has the old cloth covered wires so faded I can't tell what colors they were!

I found some wiring diagrams for the 800, 900 and other variations on the HAMB site. I am unable to link/post them at this time but you can search there and see if you find something that helps. Looks like there were various configurations to make these work.

Haven't looked at the actual wiring, but my '49 has 2 separate brake lites, plus the 2 parking/turn signal lamps. Always something different. But same nasty wires.

after the two 800's failed I used one I bought from ggdad. thought it was a 900 post-6005-0-39485000-1461182378_thumb.jpg turns out the "900" was a "905" post-6005-0-28168800-1461182377_thumb.png had two white wires that turned out to be for the high beams post-6005-0-09536900-1461182376_thumb.jpg I didn't end up using those, but I do like the hazards option :)
