Trim removal and refitting 41 windsor

I have got my cowl trim and my rocker trim from Fat Fendered Relics and am very pleased! However ,how do i take off the old ones and what trim clips do i need to fit the new ones ! Its for my 1941 Chrysler Windsor convertible.

As the car is upside down, you should be able to just shake it a bit to get stuff to drop off   Sorry, could not resist   Do not have an answer your question. Someone helpful will chime in with an answer.

I have never removed those items, but someone will know and answer your query.i think there will be some rust under there and may require new clips. nice car, even upside down.  capt den

To remove the trim I would go to an autoparts store and then get the plastic trim removal tools.  do not use the metal tools you are going to scratch the paint.

 

Before trying to remove any trim look on the inside of the hood to see if there are any  bolts that might be hold the trim in place. Then carefully  pry off the bottom of the trim and little at a time and then go along the entire length of the trim.

 

Most cars used metal clips.  When we did the trim on my 39 Desoto we replaced the clips with plastic clips. If you go to a good automotive paint supplier they should have a selection of trim clips.

Take a piece of the trim with you and get a clip that is a good fit in the space and then get the clips that has the  plastic stud to push into the hole in the body.  You might have to experiment with several styles.

 

The nice part about the new plastic is that it willnot rust and leave rust marks on the body and paint.

Are those hubcaps stock? (with the white?) On my '49 Windsor, someone had painted that outer ring blue to match the car. I liked the shiny 'stainless' better, and in removing the paint, found white underneath. (that area is steel, not chrome or stainless) The Chrysler name was also slightly different. So maybe I have 2 hubcaps from '51? If white is normal, maybe re-paint and find someone looking for that style. Good luck on your trim project.

hi ,the trim rings are the white rings they used ,mostly in WW11 due to the unavailability of real whitewall tyres! I am running whitewalls as well ,mainly because I like the way it looks.The hubcaps are the originals ,they are identical of both my 41 and my 48.
