captden29 Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 I am trying to identify this U-joint - the original box has the number DJ-7225-2. This should be for a 1954 Chrysler Windsor but I don't know if it is the front or the rear u-joint. Trying to save money by only having to buy one and not both. The part was made by General. It is an OEM part. If anybody can cross-reference it, I would appreciate it. Thank you, Capt Den Quote
dpollo Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 My parts book shows these part #s for C60 and C62 Universal joint packages USA built 1450445 axle end 947550 transmission end perhaps you can have these numbers crossed over to the part you have. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) I think 1953 -54 Chrysler six cylinder cars use the U-Joint some what similar to shown above but the two Bat Wing style end caps are curved instead of straight for the 53-54 Chrysler six cars. I parted a 1954 Windsor Powerflite out that has these curved end cap joints requiring two curved bolt on retainer plates where as the style shown above ...the Bat Wings are a direct bolt on to the companion flange. DeSoto used the same two retainer plate U-joints for 1953-54 as Chrysler did... Here's a couple pic's of this odd type of U-joint for 1953-54 Chryslers six cars.... You need to get under the car and look to see what ya got before you buy one.. Edited March 13, 2016 by Dodgeb4ya Quote
desoto1939 Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 This is why you should look for catalogs when going to swap meets. captden29 Posted March 13, 2016 Author Report Posted March 13, 2016 I looked under the car and pulled the axle end driveshaft. the ujoint there has the batwing style.the one I have must be the front one.i will have to pull the entire driveshaft out to be sure. then I will need a source for new ones a little less money than the ones I have seen. the right ones could be more or if lucky less. capt den Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Your car could also use a MoPar #1450445 depending on serial number of car. Quote
captden29 Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 a friend of mine is supposed to hook me up with a shop that does driveshafts. if it is an old shop with an older mechanic I may get help there. thanks for the replies. capt den Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 The driveline shop will probably modernize the shaft. Quote
