austinsailor Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Drove up to Backwoods, Pennsylvania today to see George Asche. He had a couple transmissions of mine which he's unable to fix, no parts available. It was a good excuse to run up there. What a nice family. Met him and his sons and got an extended tour. If you're in the area you should stop and visit, he seems to enjoy the company, and it's an enteresting tour. Didn't realize until I was gone that I really didn't get a picture of him, just this one of his coupe with him in the background looking for something in the basement. 1 Quote

mopar_earl Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Cool, I've talked to him a few times over the years. I thought he had past on since I didn't see him at the show anymore. Wonder why they don't attend anymore? Do they attend Hershey? Earl Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 George is getting up in years. I don't know if he does swap meets any more. 1 Quote
blue p15 Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 He still rebuilds carburetors and overdrives, among other things. He rebuilt a carburetor for my 47 a month or so ago. I'v never met him - just talked to him on the phone. Quote
mopar_earl Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Glad to hear he's still kicking. Liked the guy. He took the time to talk to me about my Gyromatic car and informed me on how it worked and such. That was 16 years ago. I was just a younger punk than. Lol Earl Quote

55 Fargo Posted November 19, 2015 Report Posted November 19, 2015 George is getting up in years. I don't know if he does swap meets any more. Well no Don, George was at Carlisle this Year with Tim Kingsbury, but did not set up a booth to sell his wares. George, was out and about enjoying the event and saying hi to folks he met... 1 Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 19, 2015 Report Posted November 19, 2015 Well darn. I didn't know they were going to Carlisle......my friend Nils and I were there this year. Would have been fun to meet with them. Ah, well...... I love the picture of the dash in that yellow roadster........looks like a real Rube Goldberg deal......would be interesting to know just what each of those switches and gauges is supposed to do. Borrowed this picture from Don's album....... Quote
meadowbrook Posted November 19, 2015 Report Posted November 19, 2015 Had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago when I purchased my R7 O/D. Also got a tour and was pleased to see he is a strong Christ follower. Also enjoyed his old Desoto with everything including a little 'kitchen' sink on the dash. Took a wild ride in his Plymouth, felt like Bo and Luke as he charged across dirt roads. He souped up that engine, but the suspension was apparently stock Quote
