Npence Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 I'm in need of a gas tank for my B3C truck. Have been told a W tank will work just need to make a bracket. Has anyone done this. Quote
Pilot house Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 I not sure i I missed your post, may be a little late now. But I did get a tank from Tanks inc. and installed it in my 1950. That have it listed for the earlier trucks I think 39 to 47. The quality was very good and tank went in without a problem had to make a small flat plate and drill holes to extend fuel tank bracket an inch or two. They also have sending units with easy instructions and work great. 1 Quote
Npence Posted May 24, 2015 Author Report Posted May 24, 2015 Thanks, I went ahead and got the tank and sending unit. Just haven't found time to install it yet. Will let you know how it turns out. Quote
Npence Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) I have started installing the new gas tank. I have had to make some brackets since tank is shorter the OG tank. The only thing I have not found an answer for is the filler neck is below the cab unsure how to connect the filler tube and the neck yet. Any Ideas? Edited June 12, 2015 by Npence Quote
Desotodav Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) The gas tank filler tub connects to the tank neck with a short rubber piece. It shouldn't be too hard to make up a rubber hose and bent metal pipe to meet up with your new tank filler below the floor. Edited June 12, 2015 by Desotodav 2 Quote
The Oil Soup Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 Would it be impractical to run the fuel line over the transmission and down the passenger side to the fuel pump? Has anyone done this? Quote
TrampSteer Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 (edited) I found a gas tank that didn't have holes in it and had a new mount fabbed. Didn't ask where it came from. Did have to re-route the filler neck. Check that and the access hole under the driver seat is still usable for getting at the tank gauge. Edited June 14, 2015 by TrampSteer Quote
Npence Posted June 17, 2015 Author Report Posted June 17, 2015 Alright here is where I am at on this. Tank is mounted and filler neck hooked up. But I can not find a fitting to work on this new tank. Looks to be made for a male flare but all the male flares I've found aren't long enough. Any idea? Worst case will weld a flare into the tank. Quote
Dave72dt Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 If standard brake line flare, one end of the line will have a short fitting, the other a long oneor you can get long fittings in the brake fitting section of your local part supplier. Quote
Npence Posted June 18, 2015 Author Report Posted June 18, 2015 Found it was just a NPT fitting bought at autozone. Truck is back on the road again worked great just needed to make one bracket to get it to fit. Quote
