bwylie7 Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 hello guys, so this isn't my first foray into the world of dodge products(long sad story) but so far the furthest. I picked up what was to be a running, non driving 53 Cranbrook w/ Hy-drive to play with while I'm doing a resto on a 75 ford super camper special and also my Dad can take it to the local car cruises so he don't have to crawl in and out of my brother in laws Camaro. first problem I had was the engine wouldn't turn over so I pulled head. lightly stuck on #3 & #5 pistons and several valves stuck open. I got it all loose except #4 exhaust valve is still sticking. need to pull that valve and really go over it as it is really tight. then it is on to the brakes and new fuel system. any good tips and tricks for a guy that has spent most of his wrenching on old tractors and one lung hit and miss engines. here is a picture of my new toy last week, when I bought it. 2 Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 Hy-drive is a one year only deal and the engine and transmission share the same oil. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 13, 2015 Report Posted March 13, 2015 The Hy-drive did continue into the early productions of the 54 model and was phased out with the introduction of the full automatic Powerflite...lots of floks did not like it for various reasons. It was the first torque converter setup.. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 Hi Welcome Decent looking old Plym from the picture. Will probably be the only one like it at the cruise-in. Quote
Old School Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 Yes, you won't see many of these and it really does speak to the early 1950s. Quote
T120 Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 Welcome to the forum. Hope you get the Plymouth on the road without too much trouble...Nice to think of Dad. Quote

If I was you and that close he would be my 1st call and visit! I'm sure someone can send you his contact information, Great looking project though and two thumbs up for keeping Dad in mind ! 1 Quote
