I'm looking for a wiper switch for my P15 (converted to electric wipers) that will let me retain the original wiper knob. The shaft needs to be 3/16" dia. and slotted. I've done a fair amount of searching, but have not been able to find anything suitable. Has anyone else been faced with ths problem? I'm currently using a small rotary switch in the original location, but that original knob would look so much better. Thanks.

Just as an update to my original post, I found a wiper switch from a 53-55 Studebaker that fit perfectly.  The chrome bezel from the Plymouth wiper control had matching threads, the threaded bushing fit the keyed opening in the dashboard, and the knob fit the shaft.  Although I didn't use it, there was a circuit breaker included on the switch assembly, and the female terminals on the switch use the bullet type male terminals. The switch has two positions, although I needed just one, as my wipers are single speed.  I'm just posting this as a FYI in the event someone is looking for a wiper switch. :D

I see you already have a solution, however I thought I would provide the alternative.  We converted my 1949 Plymouth to Electric wipers.  Used a 1946-48 Chrysler setup and attached is the picture of the switch.  I am sure you will find out or have already, that when doing the conversion the wiper arms and wiper bezels are slightly different as well.  I will attach the picture of the bezel as well.

Does the switch you found look similar to this one?  It would not surprise me in the least that Studebaker used a similar setup.

The switch itself looks very similar, but the phenolic back of the switch extended out where the circuit breaker was mounted.  The circuit breaker looks exactly like one that you would find at NAPA, or Autozone, in that it is encased in a metal enclosure.  I should have taken a picture, but I was anxious to get the switch installed.

Bob,

The wiper motor was rescued from a Dodge Durango rear hatch at the local pick & pull.  I knew it was only single speed, but it was a compact unit, that fit where the vacuum motor used to be.  I had to fabricate some pieces to make it work, but it works better than the old vacuum unit did, and my P15 rarely sees rain anyway (if I can avoid it). :D

That is an interesting application you came up with Wayne.

Did you take any pictures or make a drawing of the pieces you fabricated and how they went together.......as people

always seem to be looking for a better wiper motor system.

I would say most people don't expose these old cars to rain any more than they have to -- like getting caught out while

on a trip.

I guess actually the wipers that come on a P15 are single speed.......only influenced by the vacuum pressure

generated by speeding up or slowing down of the engine.

I know I have pictures of the wiper set-up on my old computer. I'll see if I can retrieve them and then post them. I'll try to do that tomorrow.
