Guest aunteeks Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Has anyone installed some kind of brake booster? The old girl stops ok in at town speeds but highway speed (55-60 mph) is a little hairy. Also, is there an nonpreasure brake light switch avaliable? Thanks John Quote
greg g Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 search brake sight switch on the car forum. has been discussed several times and several sources are sited for electric brake switches. Quote
MBF Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 The lever style switch that is used in the same era Chevy passenger cars is a possibility. It had a (approx) 3" arm that is held back by the brake pedal. I've found that when using these old vehicles it is wise to flush the brake system out periodically to remove the water that has accumulated within the system even while stored indoors due to a lack of use. You should also bear in mind that the style of brake used on the PH trucks is different from other manufacturers in that it is not self energizing-the brake shoes are anchored on the bottom of each shoe. I think they're suited ok for 40-50 mph travel-but they were never really designed for more than that. Just my 2 cents. Mike Quote
knuckleharley Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Guys, here is just once source for a alternator conversion kit for old 6 volt positive ground Ford tractors. I see no reason why these wouldn't work as well on a flat 6 Mopar, and you save 100 bucks. This is just one source. Do a google search for tractor alternators and you will find dozens. You might even find it on sale someplace. The only drawback for some of you is that these are all 12 volt alternators. http://secure.ssbtractor.com/cgi-bin/quikstore.cgi Quote

55 Fargo Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 A local auto electric shop makes either 6v pos or neg Alternators. He uses a GM single wire alternator, he sells them for $100.00 Quote
