55 Fargo Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 This is very interesting, although we will forgive him for choosing a Chebby truck this journey of usage is quite amazing. http://www.kare11.com/story/news/local/land-of-10000-stories/2015/01/01/prinsburg-pickup-chevy-bob-sportel-75/21169665/ Quote
halffast52 Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 I am currently working on my neighbors 48 chebby truck he bought in 1960 for 50 bucks and used it as a work truck until about 5 years ago when he bought a newer truck but even then if he needed coal or to haul anything he used and still uses the 48 every couple of years he would brush paint it now that he retired I said its time to patch it up and put some good paint on it .....I just wonder how many more guys like that are out there I was actually going to post an OT about it but still figuring out how to post pics. 1 Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 4, 2015 Author Report Posted January 4, 2015 My 55 Fargo was at first supposed to be a beater truck for any use, then I started fixing her up, and well you know the answer. If I lived close to work it would be going to work all the time in dry salt free weather. I work 30 miles away, and in winter with temps down to -20 to -35 f, and snowy roadways don't tink so.... pflaming Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Score 1 for the longevity of original patina. It gives but it does not "break". LOL There is another story of the lady who bought a 57 +/- Chevrolet Belaire. She bought life time batteries, shocks, brake parts, etc., had it serviced on a very regular basis, etc., Another great story. Edited January 4, 2015 by pflaming Quote
greg g Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 I bought, drove, and ice raced a $75.00 1979 Dodge (Mitsubishi import) Colt for 5 years. It had been involved in an accident where it ran into another car at a stop light. I jerry rigged the head lamps, bumper and signals, pulled a grille and hood from a friends parts car. I put about 30 K of all winter driving on that poor thing. It was an dual range 4 speed car and it went pretty well. I even changed the oil once. I have had my 46 since 1970 and I got it for $200.00 so I ampretty close to the Minn guy, though the Plymouth was never a daily driver. Quote
