austinsailor Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 I was just reading an ad about a high end Ford horror for sale, and among other things it said the Offenhauser heads had been ported and relieved. Bad terminology, or do they know something I don't? I ported my flathead's block, not the head. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 Pictured is a relieved block but I think this is an exercise in futility. Loss of compression ratio would exceed any gain in flow. Quote
austinsailor Posted October 2, 2014 Author Report Posted October 2, 2014 Yes, but that's the block - they said the heads had been "ported and relieved", Quote
BigDaddyO Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 Yes, but that's the block - they said the heads had been "ported and relieved", I think they were talking about drinking a lot of wine and then going to the bathroom but I could be way off. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 a large intake of wine would lead to flow for certain....its a flathead...you would do better just to add 4 more PSI to your tires than port or polish anything... Quote
DJ194950 Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) Block and head surface area appear to be stress relived by multiple shotgun pellets! I cleaned the intake and exhaust "bowls" and blended to smooth all transitions( see transition lines in the pic), removing the machining cut lines only.on my 230c, NO polishing!!. Figured it really couldn't hurt, help? Not sure at all. Too much time avail.! Runs strong with stock motor, etc. Nothing to compare it with. DJ Edited October 2, 2014 by DJ194950 Quote
