I've pulled this out of another thread, where I wasn't getting an answer.

I'm about to install a new clutch release bearing, reinstall the transmission, etc.

Some release bearings are pre-lubricated and some are not?  How would you know?  Now the DeSotos in the mid 30's had a grease hose to the bearing, but pre-lubricated bearings came into their own since then.

The seals on the new and old bearings look pretty tight.  How would you get a needle in to inject grease?

So guys, do you have to grease your release bearings or not?

The presence of a grease fitting indicates the bearing requires occasional maintenence. The absence of a fitting indicates the bearing is sealed and is lubricated for its predicted life span.

the 36 desoto and back according to my Master parts book used the grease fitting. 37 and up did not use the grease fitting hose onthe throw out bearing.
