FULMNTE
Anyone ever added a driver side door lock to a 50's Mopar? 51 Wayfarer here. I am thinking about Bucket Seats and a Center Console which makes sliding across to the driver side quite difficult... Paul Hoffmeyer
What kind of Mopar do you have that does not have a driver side lock? I have had every year from '48 on up and all had locks on both sides. Paul H

DonaldSmith
I heard that in the old days, they considered it dangerous to get in and out of the driver's side door, because of oncoming traffic, and in some locations it was unlawful to to so. You'd have to get in and out of the passenger's door and slide over.

There is a video floatong around on YouTube about this 'security feature'
Desotodav
1951 Dodge Wayfarer 2D Sedan, as mentioned above . Has no driver side outside door lock 'for security reasons'. Thanks See if you can find a left-side door lock mechanism over here in Australia. Jeff recently fitted one (that I sent over to him) to his truck with minimal effort. Truck mechanisms are different to car ones though.
JerseyHarold
You'd need to make an accurately-located keyhole-shaped hole in the door to accomodate the lock cylinder, possibly spot-weld a sliding track to the inside of the door for the lock cylinder retaining clip, plus be sure that the lock mechanism itself can accomodate the lock cylinder input shaft. If it were me, I'd look into adding a remote electric door-lock popper. It should be easy to find one for street rods and adapt it to your Dodge. BobT-47P15
I think Harold's suggestion may be the best route.

fstfish66
you can get a set of door lock poppers at a junk yard say out of a seebring or whaty ever and use the mounting bracket that came with it,,, a friend did it to his 40 dodge,,, then u buy a 2 channle remote from any street rod vendor or JC WHITNEY i think would probably still carry those,,,

FULMNTE
The door popper idea is interesting. Anyone done door poppers on a 6V positive ground system?
