FESTER60 Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Here is something I would like to bounce off of you guys. Maybe someone has done or tried it. As we all know the door handles on our cars are made of pot metal and don't hold up well. While trolling e-bay for nice handles, (good luck) I noticed the handles for Power Wagons look to be made of stainless and still look pretty good. How difficult would it be to transplant Power Wagon handles to our doors? Would it even be possible? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 I presume you are talking about exterior handles. Quote
bob westphal Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 I don't remember exactly what the Power Wagon handle looks like but most MOPAR door handles of that era had the same square tipped rod that went into the door latch. The problem would be the trim most cars had that held the handle in position. Bob Quote
FESTER60 Posted February 10, 2014 Author Report Posted February 10, 2014 I presume you are talking about exterior handles. Yes. My inside handles are pretty good. The biggest issue is the cost to have them re-chromed. It's out of sight. They want $65 just to do my ashtray face. I can't imagine the cost to do four door handles. Quote

The rub I think might be the fitment of the mounting base to the door. Maybe the base from the old handle could be used with a Power Wagon handle? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 years ago I stripped Dodge sedan same era of my Plymuths.....ti came with stainless door handles on the outside all four doors....I have these in reserve for two of my Plymouths...the Dodge square shank is a bit longer than the Plymouth I intend to use them on but that was about the only significant difference, just trim to length..go beat the bushes..stainless is out there.. FESTER60 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) there's 4 on ebay for 46-48 dodge. Was 6 but I bought two. I saw these and they are nice but they are not quite right for my car. Mine are stand alone with no adjoining trim. I will scrounge around at spring Jefferson in April. Maybe find something there. Last fall there was a guy that had a NOS '49 grille so you never know what will turn up. Edited February 12, 2014 by FESTER60 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 most of the handles come with bases that are removable and able to swap out with the other handles...just because your stainless bases are different does not make the NOS handles of no value to you...pot metal handles in excellent condition is almost as rare as unicorns Quote
