Ward Duffield Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Hello Group My early 1946 Convertible coupe has no trim code info to be found, even on the original dealer invoice The car is black, the interior maroon and tan leather & cloth. Can anyone guess the code? The parts book lists red, but this is pretty much maroon to me I have attached a photo Anyone know of a source for replacement materials? Also the top locking handle is missing anyone have one for sale? Thanks again Ward D Quote
Robin (UK) Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Hi Ward,I'm just undertaking exactly the same project, here in the UK. I have an original paint and interior catalogue which lists the standard seat covers for all P15 convertibles as red leather with bedford cord. I've attached a scan. The leathers have changed color with age, so please don't match to this. As you can see, tan leather with cord, or blue leather with cord were also available as options. In addition, I have seen period pictures showing two-tone cord (which I think my car had originally) and all leather. The red is a very deep color - maroon is probably an accurate description. Some people describe the color as mulberry. Bill Hirsch (HirschAuto.com) stocks bedford cord fabric. He also has very good matches for the vinyl. He'll send samples. Leather is available in a wide range of colors, so you will be able to get what you want. Sorry I can't help with a top release handle. Good luck with that. Please stay in touch. My email is Robin@RockTheJoint.com Also attached a couple of other pictures of original interiors. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Most p-15s I've seen came with a greyish themed interior not brown/maroon like my dodge...? Quote
jcmiller Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 SMS Fabrics will also send samples. You can email them pictures and they try to get as close as possible. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Most p-15s I've seen came with a greyish themed interior not brown/maroon like my dodge...? Convertible's are a different animal. Painted dash and vinyl seat covers. Quote
Ward Duffield Posted February 4, 2014 Author Report Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks for the very helpful info! I hope SMS has some good stuff left Ward D Quote
JerseyHarold Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Is the trim info on the build card available from Chrysler? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Apparently they called the maroon looking leather "red".....as that's all my parts book lists, too. My car did not have leather on the seats, but instead had what they called "vinyl resin fabric and bedford cord combination". Here is a pic of a re-upholstry job someone had done ..... think I got the picture from an eBay ad in the past. Tan with maroon looking (probably) vinyl. For my car, son in law Dale found some cloth material in maroon and bedford cord type in tan. Pretty close to original, best I can tell. A fellow from an upholstery wholesaler in Kansas City brought it to him from old stock. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 The top latch knob on a P15 looks like this. There is a knob similar, but a bit different, for a 51-52 Plymouth on eBay now for $275. Lilnk to the ad if you want to see what that later model knob looks like...................... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950-1951-1952-NOS-PLYMOUTH-CONVERTIBLE-TOP-CLOSING-HANDLE-VERY-RARE-WOW-WOW-/181220047011?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a318e78a3&vxp=mtr Quote
Robin (UK) Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 These are the samples I've collected from suppliers in the UK. The colours on this scan are not exactly true... Quote
