12 volt wiper motor install

i just put a 12 volt windshield wiper motor on my 1948 plymouth special deluxe coupe. i bought it from speedway motors for a 46 to 48 ford passenger car. part # 913-56046 wiper kit for $124.99. all i had to do to fit was oblong the two mounting holes on the motor bracket. face the motor on the bracket to the drivers side and it has an adjustable swivel arm so that was easy to line up with my arms. my arms fit perfect on the swivel part. it comes with a switch so just needed a power line to hook it up. it has two speeds and a self park. the bad is that you cant use your stock radio. it hits the motor. but i am using an aftermarket radio so no problem. hope this info helps the guys who want to put a 12 volt wiper in their car.

For the 41 I used Newport Engineering. Rotated the motor 90' on the bracket and cleared the radio...

I also have a newport engeering  12volt  wiper motor to  replace my 6 volt motor in my 40 coupe,hope to get to  installing it soon

I like this idea. No screwing around with 64 year old motors or voltage reducers. Does anyone know if this would work on my 50 Coronet?

I use a 1948 12v kit from Newport on my 50 Dodge. You will have to make your own mounts and linkage. I did this about six years ago, at that time Newport did not make a kit for a 50 dodge with 6v wiper motors.    Kirby D34

Do you mean the '48 Ford kit? I see some of those on e-bay for around 125.00. I don't have any problem making custom mounts. Kind of a challange actually.

I use the kit for a 48 Dodge car from Newport. I remove the cowl vent,  installed ac unit in dash. The mount was not to bad to make, the linkage was a pain.     Kirby D34

If you guys have a BMC/English car wrecker nearby check out almost any British car from the 50's thru to the 80's.....they almost all use a cable driven wiper motor, all are 12 volts....get the complete system including all the brackets and transmission clamps............the cable arrangement uses a pair of clamps that attach to the tube the cable runs thru and can be mounted in parallel or opposite each other, which from memory is what I did to allow "clap your hands" wipers as shown on my 1940 Dodge......."wave your hands" wipers are done by mounting the clamps parallel........as the wiper is cable operated you can in theory mount the motor anywhere so long as the cable is long enough..........I mounted the motor between the glove box and the cowl side and used the horizontal brace located there to mount the motor bracket..........unfortunately I don't have a pic but this has been in use for about 30yrs and works fine.........anyway check out these cable systems....I think the Newport aftermarket setup is based on this principal.............regards, andyd

new port is  a direct fit  if he has  one for your car,,,he  has one for my 40 dodge,that  was factory 6volt  different  mounting  bracket for a vacuum  original  wiper kit,,,,   there are companies that advertise in the  rod magazines  the cable driven  type,,  i didnt  know any one that has  ever used them, or see one in  real,,,,

I just checked the Newport website and they do have a direct bolt in replacement for the 49-50 Dodge and Plymouth. That's the good news. Bad news is it's pricey at $210.00. I like the above idea and may give it a look. For me though British cars are as rare as hen's teeth around here. I do know of a yard downstate that has a few Jag's and Land Rovers in it. Maybe when it warms up a bit I will go look. No junking for me for a while. It's -8 today. Whatever is there now will still be there in the spring.
