rumble48 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 When I purchased my 48 p15 it had what I take to be an aftermarket heater..... an MP 356 with defrost connections. The previous owner gave me a Comfort Master model 53, and said it was a stock heater. After some research I've found the M53/M54 are part of an optional dual heater system. my original thought was to use the original heater (M53) to replace the aftermarket unit. after looking at it, looks like I should be using an M54 which would have the air output on the left putting it closer to the center of the car. Also I have not seen one with defrost connections, so I need to figure out what that looks like as well. Can someone jump in here and clear up which heater is the correct one in a single heater config, and maybe a pic of the defrost connections at the heater. Craig Quote
garbagestate 44 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 Not sure about the application for a p15 but my 47 Chrysler Windsor with a single comfort master heater like the one you have pictured, has the door on the same side as yours and is factory mounted on the passenger side. Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 Photo shows two original factory heaters in my '47 Canadian D25 which is similar/identical to the American P15 in most respects. The heater under the dash at right is original to this car and you can see the defroster air take-off at the upper right. That rather convoluted path and ribbed flex hose makes for a very anemic air flow. We added the second heater on the transmission tunnel a couple years ago prior to a run up to the arctic — it serves to heat the driving compartment and the original heater is devoted to defrost only. The heater hoses split and reunite at Tees just ahead of the firewall, and a separate switch is used to control the second heater fan independently. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 Heaters were a add on option on P-15's. Often times a dealer installed option. If the heater was factory installed it should have been a comfort master model 53 at a cost of $40.25. This is for a right side heater only. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 Bamsfords heater is an example of the lowest level optional heater. The next step up is your model 53 which is a fresh air heater and goes on the passenger side. The defrost hooks up just like Bamsfords picture shows. The 54 goes on the drivers side and is a heater only. No defrost option. For my dual heaters there are also special kick panels that attach to the heaters and form a heater outlet right at the door opening. I am not sure if you only had 1 fresh air heater if you still had that special duct. Quote
