Jerry Roberts Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Something drained my battery . I notice that when I disconnect my recharged battery at the terminal that a small spark appears . Am I correct in thinking that when I put a test light between the battery terminal and the battery terminal clamp , that the test light will light , and that when I disconnect the offending connection , when I find it , the test light will go out ? I will first try disconnecting my ignition switch (2 wires) as it feels a bit sluggish . Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Check your brake light switch Quote
DJ194950 Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Check Don's suggestion also any always powered functions--Horn relay, dome light, Cig lighter, clock(small draw only, intermittent as posted before?) if equiped. Happy hunting, should not be to hard, hopefully! Best, Doug Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 This a sure cure for you drained battery and maybe from keeping someone from stealing your car. Cut oft switch (!0 t0 15 dollars). Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 A cut off switch will not fix anything. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Well it does fix a battery from going down if you turn oft the system and that for sure. Now as far as finding the culprite thats another story. Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted December 2, 2013 Author Report Posted December 2, 2013 Got it ! Thanks guys . I first tested the brake light switch and it was working OK . Doug mentioned the horn relay and I had been working with replacing the horns and some horn wires . The horns were disconnected at the time of the problem but the horn relay wasn't . I had accidentally energized the low amp side of the relay permanently when working on the horns and the relay was drawing the battery down when parked . Now I don't show any electrical flow between a battery terminal and its disconnected cable clamp , as it should be when everything is off . Quote
