stock hub caps on newer steel rims

has anyone been able to mount the original type of hub caps on to newer type  steel rims. I have saved my old rims in the hope of figuring out a way to do this .  thanks neil

Wait,  if you saved your old rims you should be able to mount the original type of hub caps on them. I also have a 51. Is your truck a 1/2. 3/4, or I ton ? Are your old rims 16" or 15"?

I have a few clips if you're missing any.

your newer rims of interest to upgrade with clips must have the proper size wheel center well for the cap to lay onto for a proper smooth look.  IF your rims meet this requirement...drilling and mounting your clips is just a shop procedure..

I was thinking I would have to make a pattern some how and make sure it was centered to know where to drill to mount the clips. thanks for the offer of the clips I have all I need. great group of guys here thanks.   neil

five clips per wheel..equal distance between the lug nuts..I think you will find that the hub centers are same for later years..just a simple measurement...its just a cap..and will hide a multitude of sins...I do not think you could get so much off or out of line that you could not make them work...often the biggest chore is starting the job...

red wheels only belong on car that are body painted red and even then..thy must have caps and rings of some sort to make them attractive..stark red wheels are just that ....stark unattractive abortions that scream they are in need of exorcism...a good bulldozer will work wonders on these...or a thermite gernade

I dunno either Tim, could be Me, live in the country and all, and yes I do have hubcaps, helps cover up the abortion look you mentioned. Now the truck is baby blue, was thinking of white rims actually, but not sure how that would play out with the WW tires.

Or body colored blue, and blackwall radial tires. Anyway, not a huge concern at the moment...... PS, you didn't actually think I was referring to you as a Redneck did yah......

I had no clue Fred...why I asked....I feel that it is a personal call and each has to ask themselves on the way they look..it is obvious some do like this look..I do not..I feel the wheels should compliment the car/truck and stark wheel differences just cannot do that...red is an eye attractor and most folks eyes keep going back to the wheels and thus they do not clearly see your car..with red wheels the car is second and hard to focus on...I will state that if you do a poor job painting your car red wheels may be an asset..

Exactly, needed to take the focus off my crappy body panels and paint, keep there eyes on the spinning red rims and WW tires, kinda hypnotizing...........LOL

Fred..not seen your paint job up close but given it is one color and not a many shade of what some call patina...another subject that causes debate...I am certain you have no need for the red wheels..body color would in my opinion be very complimenting..

Hank, Where did you find those hub cap clips ? My front rims have them and I found aftermarket Caps to install,  My rear wheels are missing them, I have been looking for rims that are intact with clips but no luck so far. How hard are they to install ? Do they rivet on or bolt on ?
