6 Volt Led Bulb For Trunk Stop Light On A P15???

I think there is a 6 volt LED bulb that can be used in the stop light, but can't offhand recall where to

find one.   The LED complete lights with frames for the P15 sold on ebay are all 12 volt.

Technostalgia made a small run of 6 volt LED tail lights as a test.....to see if they would sell........and, of

course they Did Not sell.......so have discontinued making them, per the owner Todd.    There are a few 6V in the hands of at least one ebay seller, but when his are gone, they're gone.  They never

did make a 6V brake light.  Just passing this on for whatever it's worth.  I am getting a set of the

6V LED tail lights, so would like to also have the brake light to be brighter.

Just make sure that when you get some LED bulbs that they are red; Any white ones will be incredibly dim behind the red lenses ......

Marty .....  been there, done that

That's interesting.  I saw red bulbs on ebay and was thinking red behind a red lense would be kinda dim.......that white or clear would

be needed.   Thanks for the advice.

Are any relays, or other things needed with the LEDs?  Or do you just connect them like the original tail light?

Unless you have turn signals, just connect them. They draw less current than incandescent bulbs to the old fashioned style flasher device won't work but, at least for 12v, they make electronic flasher modules. I assume they make them for 6v too but haven't checked.

This is the bulb that I got for my tail light  http://www.ledlight.com/24-led-light-s25-6-volt-dc-positive-or-negative-chassis-non-polarity-sensitve.aspx I talked technostalgia into selling me the trunk/brake light fixture without any electronics.  I plan to convert it using the 6volt, positive ground bulb.  I also got a pair of their 6 volt tail lights that will serve as brake, turn signal and running lights.  Just painted the car and have yet to put the trim back on, sure are looking forward to seeing all the bling in action.

LED's are usually engineered to put out one wavelength of light.  White ones sort of put out all wavelengths, but not in a wide distribution.  Therefore, with a red lens you filter out everything but red, which there isn't much of in a white LED.  If you use a red LED, then effectively all of the output makes it through the lens.
