ChrisRice Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I am trying to find out how to remove the overdrive emblem off the the tailgate of a 1955 Plymouth Plaza 4 door wagon. I am trying to sand/reprint the area. Any ideas on how to remove it? I don't want to break it as replacement emblem is quite expensive. Quote
54Illinois Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 look up in the tail gate....should be some sort of anchor. Barellhead clip etc. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 Yeah.........there should be some little studs on the script.........held on with "speed nuts" or something similar. Getting in behind the emblem may be a challenge. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 If blind mounted..barrel clips.....pry very carefully Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) Those overdrive scripts are indeed hard to find. We got one off the trunk of a 53 Plymouth a couple years ago, but as I recall, it was broken and it is now in two pieces. I think some pitting as well. But can probably be made usable again with some T L C. You'd think some company that makes similar trim items could produce a generic overdrive tag that looks similar to Mopar, Ford, etc and sell a few of them. Don't know if demand would be all so great or not in reality. This is the one we got, along with the transmission and all wiring, etc. Had the cable too......... BobT-47P15 Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 How do you get the overdrive tranny, etc, out in the field??? If you have a cooperative seller with a wrecker, it helps a bunch. We left them the car and just took the trans. Quote
ChrisRice Posted September 9, 2013 Author Report Posted September 9, 2013 BobT... My car was a field find. I paid 700 for it in running condition. Needs work, but all original parts were there. And chance that I can get a picture of the backside of the emblem to see where on it the studs are located (if its not already on a car). Quote
54Illinois Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 You can see the studs visually. Spray some WD40 of some sort to soak the studs and anchors...easy does it! Quote
ChrisRice Posted September 10, 2013 Author Report Posted September 10, 2013 Unfortunately, I can't see them.. There is a full skin on the inside without an access panel. Quote
DJ194950 Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Unfortunately, I can't see them.. There is a full skin on the inside without an access panel. Sounds just like my 50 ply. Suburban wagon rear gate-no inside access panel. That tell me that the emblem is hold by a spring type round clip that is just pushed into a hole in the outter skin and the emblem has protrusions shaped like a tall, skinny christmas tree. Gently ply under the emblem with a door panel remover tool. Suggest after lifting it slightly outwards, stop soak with light penetrating oil on the (tits) and let sit for a day.Preferably No silicones. If you don't own a panel remover tool, buy a cheap one at a local parts place. Almost all sell them. Some are not steel but nylon? Actually can be better a not marking outter panel. Good luck, Doug Quote
ChrisRice Posted September 10, 2013 Author Report Posted September 10, 2013 Doug, thank you for this information. I will try that. Quote
