Don Jordan Posted June 18, 2013 Author Report Posted June 18, 2013 Here is a hot flash on this topic: I too just replaced my oil seal to stop a leak. Most of my problems can be traced on the forum. I drained the differential. Today I bought a gallon of 90w oil. It cost more than a oil change at Jiffy Lube. $35.00 for a gallon of oil. I guess I need to get out more. I'll fill the diff. tomorrow and see if there is a chance the leak is fixed. I'm telling you an old car is God's way of telling you you have too much money. I saw Jay Leno on tv yesterday and he was saying: "Yeah, you pick up a car for $450, put $25,000 into it and sell if for $11,000." Boy does that sound familiar. Quote

Boy does that sound familiar. no that does not sound right to me...you buy a new car for 35,000.00 drive it of the lot and sell it for 25,000.00 if you can find someone with a good enough credit rating to TOP's but with Leno...its only money...like me throwing out my bath water so to speak.. Don Coatney Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Where did you buy the gear oil? I just checked Autozone and there price was $19.00 per gallon. Tractor Supply sells two gallons for $29.99. I did not realize the price had jumped that much. Guess I am behind the times Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) could well have been a NAPA..they have multiple pricing charts depending on volume of sales of a customer, if they know him, or what mood the counter guy is in at the minute..im my area if you want to be overcharged for any item...go to Napa..gallon cost should be less than the retial of 4 quarts as you are not paying for multiple packaging..but at about 7.50 a quart..yes 29.00 would seem close to the price...20 is a steal..39 is robbery Edited June 18, 2013 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
_shel_ny Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) Have to remember, talking California. Not sure if CARB has effect on such things. Maybe "synthetic" NY has now taken to going with some CARB/federal standards. June 1st here catalytic converter replacement standards were raised. Edited June 18, 2013 by shel_bizzy_48 Quote
Don Jordan Posted June 18, 2013 Author Report Posted June 18, 2013 I live in the middle of no where. So it's a gallon of gas to get into town and a gallon to get back. Our little auto parts store (a CAR QUEST)is a little more expensive but it is convenient. So if the oil in town goes for $29 @ gal plus $8.00 in gas it works out about the same. Still it seems high.
