pflaming
This question is aimed at convertibles but possibly applicable to other body styles as well. The service manual shows how to shim a body so the doors fit properly. The task is a bit daunting. So much so that I do not think I have the ability to take on something that intricate. On the convertible, one has to build a temporary inner frame to hold it together once i comes off the frame proper. That would have to be a triangular structure in multlple directions to keep the body from twisting. So at this point in time, I'm not going to get into a big hurry to do an off frame restoration. Your responses and suggestions are welcomed, even needed. The car in current condition. Those who have viewed the car all comment that it is not anywhere near as bad as the picture shows. Mark Hayward of the forum was quite impressed with how solid and straight the car is. I have a driver's door so that challenge has been met. Took a few dollars but it is rust and dent free, has all glass, and all inside mechanical parts.
dezeldoc
Is that a bullet nose Studebaker next to it? It's not all that hard, don't forget the front clip will be off it so their won't be that much weight on the front. just put the bracing length wise in the door jamb them X brace it from right front to left rear, left front to right rear. tack them in the middle at the X. set it on a dolly and bolt it to it and it should be plenty strong. pflaming
If I recall the Stude was a Commander, a complete car, nice! Thank your for your tip. I will cut and paste that.
Plymouthy Adams
if that is a Commander Starlight coupe instead of a Champion..that is a good find..the larger coupes ae not common whereas the Champion line is everywhere..the Champion sports a much smaller flathead six compared to the Commander...my 50 commander has the large flathead and OD tranny...they are definitely a hate or love car...hardly ever a so so comment on their style.. pflaming
Tim, should I put a down payment on it? Say: 30 dilla shells? Edited May 25, 2013 by pflaming
Plymouthy Adams
that is an earlier Stude..say circa '48......not as unique in design as the 50 which in my opinion of the grille is even better looking that the 51...the nose is more distinct...you can get it and set of goal of running over say 30 armadillos
