BulldogTom Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 I am ready to install my lock in the door, and the screw that holds the lock in place is broken off on both ends. Not sure if it is rusted or what, but I can't get the remaining piece out. Should I try to drill and tap it? That is a small hole to try and get a drill bit into, let alone a tap. Anyone have a good way to get this done? Or a different way to secure the lock? Thanks Tom Hollister, CA Quote
Desotodav Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 Have a look at this post on how Mark did his Tom... http://mopar.pairserver.com/p15d24ph_forum/topic/25219-door-lock-keeping-it-in-place/ - might give you some ideas. Quote
BulldogTom Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 It is in finally. Looks good. Works great. I can lock my truck. Tom Hollister, CA Quote
B1B Keven Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 What's the fix Tom? I'm in the same boat. Quote

BulldogTom Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 Nope, Kevin. We drilled and tapped it. Not as hard as I thought as the "broken screw" was actually bondo. Drilled it out, cleaned out the threads, and put it in. Cost me $0.10 for the screw to hold it in. I am a happy camper. Tomorrow, we put in the lower grill bars. Need to start painting the medallion "Job Rated" tonight. Hope to have some pictures up in a day or two. Tom Hollister, CA Quote
B1B Keven Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 I did. Looks like I'll have to bust out the drill. Quote
Desotodav Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Yours are different to our Oz ones aren't they Tom and Kevin? Ours here are just metal cylinders with a brazed nut on the side (for the bolt to hold the lock cylinder bezel) and a flattened tab section to spot-weld them to the inner of the door skin. Quote
BulldogTom Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 Yeah, mine does not look like that. There is a sleeve, but it does not have the brazed nut on it. Tom Hollister, CA Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Yes, those Aussie ones do look different. Here's what mine looked like. The view when you peak through the little hole in the door edge Quote
