flint52 Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Hello, looking at drilling and taping my spindles on my 50 meadowbrook this weekend. Was wondering if there was any tips/tricks? tried searching, read something about welding a nut on the spindle? how do you center it? just put another bolt/nut on it and weld the larger nut? bamfordsgarage Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Good morning Ryan — I'm curious about why you would want to drill and tap your spindles. That is a new one to me. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) one of the best features of a drill press is its ability to perform tapping tasks your object however needs be affixed in a machinist vice and often with irregular shaped pieces this may require a compound vise be attached.....however, once the work piece is situated the task of tapping comes very easy... NOTE: this is done without turning on the drill press motor..it is all hand pressure on the quill and turning the spindle manually.. Edited May 9, 2013 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Good morning Ryan — I'm curious about why you would want to drill and tap your spindles. That is a new one to me. Disc brake conversion. Use of a drill press is good advice but I did it using a hand drill with no issues. Make sure you use a good tapping fluid such as TAP MAGIC. Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Disc brake conversion. Ahhh. Newfanglism. No wonder I was clueless. Quote
1941Rick Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Nice bit of info Don......will this work on a 41? Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Nice bit of info Don......will this work on a 41? Check with Charlie Akers (olddaddy) (rustyhope) on this forum. I dont think PLYDO is still in business but Charley makes a good disc brake setup and he can tell you if it will fit your car. Quote
james curl Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 41 uses a four bolt backing plate just like the pick ups do and Old Daddy has an adapter for it as well. Quote
faucet47custom Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 I've got the first kit Charlie made for the four bolt plate, fits great and installs easily. Quote
