My car is missing it e brake cable and im trying to locate a new one .Andy B wants $100 plus shipping which seems crazy.Theres a ton of nos aftermarket cables on ebay for half that but trying to figure out which one i need is becoming a pia,This guy sent me this message but i dont know if his listing of "without fluid drive "is in reference to the transmission being a fluiddrive auto or if the book is refering to the fluid coupler.I have an external ebrake .Heres what he sent me...............

Dear marran41390,

Books say D42 without fluid drive takes a 1804 cable

D42 with internal emergency brake 1809 cable Those are the only listings on a D42

Thanks

i have a fluid drive car with the e brake mounted on the tail of the tranny

the difference is probably length. measure a rough length without having the old cable and then ask for the length of the new cables. with the fluid drive more than likely is the longer one.just a guess, but seems logical. capt den

I'm going to muddy the water a bit here with a couple of pics :P

Personally, I would snag the one for $30. Modify it if needed.

EDIT: not mine, not associated with the seller.

E brake cable on my 50 Wayfarer is a clutch cable from a 1976 Harley Sportster. Father in law had his bike stored here and when I need to get the ebrake working, I just went through the spare cables until I found one that was close to the right length.

Note 5 was cut off a bit in the other post.

Still makes confusing, but I believe this cable will work.

Adjusters are available to shorten the cable if needed.

You can easily fabricate a new transmission end if the cable needs to be a bit longer, or is a bit different.

There shouldn't be more than an inch or so difference either way.

The handle end will be the same on all.
