Dear marran41390,Books say D42 without fluid drive takes a 1804 cableD42 with internal emergency brake 1809 cable Those are the only listings on a D42Thanks - circa1855 Quote
thrashingcows Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 I would think the comment of "without fluid drive" means that it's a manual shifted 3 speed tranny...dry clutch style. And the E-brake would be mounted on the tailshaft of the tranny. Quote
52dodge Posted May 1, 2013 Author Report Posted May 1, 2013 i have a fluid drive car with the e brake mounted on the tail of the tranny Quote
busycoupe Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 My '48 D24 has fluid drive and the e-brake is on the tail of the tranny. I don't know what number the cable is. Dave Quote
captden29 Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 the difference is probably length. measure a rough length without having the old cable and then ask for the length of the new cables. with the fluid drive more than likely is the longer one.just a guess, but seems logical. capt den Quote
_shel_ny Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) I'm going to muddy the water a bit here with a couple of pics Personally, I would snag the one for $30. Modify it if needed. EDIT: not mine, not associated with the seller. Edited May 1, 2013 by shel_bizzy_48 Quote

WatchingWolf Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 E brake cable on my 50 Wayfarer is a clutch cable from a 1976 Harley Sportster. Father in law had his bike stored here and when I need to get the ebrake working, I just went through the spare cables until I found one that was close to the right length. Quote

_shel_ny Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 (edited) Note 5 was cut off a bit in the other post. Still makes confusing, but I believe this cable will work. Adjusters are available to shorten the cable if needed. You can easily fabricate a new transmission end if the cable needs to be a bit longer, or is a bit different. There shouldn't be more than an inch or so difference either way. The handle end will be the same on all. ebay 111048522112 Edited May 4, 2013 by shel_bizzy_48 Quote
