tankwilson Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Hey guys this winters project is going to be rebuilding and stuffing a hemi in my 49 plymouth Here is the build thread on the HAMB http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=738468 The firewall on my car is the only thing that still looks and has orignal paint, so i really dont want to cut on it. Can it be done?? Thanks matt Quote
Adam H P15 D30 Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 I brought mine back on my 47 about 4.5 inches but I have a few inches in front of the engine so if you move the radiator to the front side of the support it MIGHT fit in there, but it will be very close. I'm not sure it will fit at all with the stock steering box. Quote
DutchEdwin Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Hey Matt, I did a rebuilt on my 259 poly. The engine is the same as a Hemi, only the head differs. Great help was this guy http://www.hotrodsandhemis.com/Rebuild/HemiRebuild.html . I followed his directions. Only I wouldn't recommend the painting of the lifter valley. If the paint comes loose, you are in throuble! I got all of my rebuild parts (gaskets, pistons etc.) from www.egge.com, the quality is very good. They produce the pistons. Upgrade parts from www.hothemiheads.com , Balancer is recommended. Have fun. Edwin. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 I looked in the Mopar engine bible and this was one of the engines where the dimensions were not listed...so I cannot give you any measurements..of the early hemi's there are three versions and of the three version there are 14 different sizes and of the 14 sizes 8 were standard blocks and 6 are raised block versions..as there are two different valve arrangements used on each of the eingines also....I would not think however the differences will be that significant except in head/valve covers as per width and the exhaust manifolds Quote
TR Waters Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=605860&highlight=hemi+dimensions I have posted a few measurements here in the past, as others have. Quote
tankwilson Posted October 24, 2012 Author Report Posted October 24, 2012 Thanks for the mesurements. Im just hoping that i dont have to cut the firewall. Quote
Adam H P15 D30 Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 Make sure to include the front crossmember and steering linkage in your measurements. Also a rear sump pan is a must...... The pan to crossmember / steering linkage is probably going to be the deciding factor whether you cut the firewall or not. Mine is clipped so I can't help you there. Quote
