Bill Ford
Has anyone recently bought a externally bypass thermostat? I checked with Roberts, NAPA, and Bernbaum. Bernbaum has a 185 but no 160 or 165. Do any of you know a supplier?

fatFreddie
I checked with Roberts, NAPA, and Bernbaum. Bernbaum has a 185 but no 160 or 165. Do any of you know a supplier? I did not see Vintage American Parts on your list... Seriously NAPA has them 160 STAT part THM55 $8.69 180 STAT part THM155 $8.69 and you will need the gasket part FPG 35063 $1.69. The external bypass STAT is the one with the rubber gasket on top...used to 1950... after 1950 you can use the modern style (flat) STAT. You can get them at your local NAPA or from NAPAONLINE.com and they will ship them to your front door Edited October 2, 2012 by fatFreddie
Bill Ford
I saw the picture of the one you show at Napa Monday. It did not look like the ones I have seen pictures of. Bernbalm part number is J-127 and Roberts P39a look alike. What confusess me is the parts book and Bernbalm and Roberts show the thermostat and a thermostat gasket plus the housing gasket. The guy at my NAPA had no idea. Will the NAPA stat need a stat gasket?
Niel Hoback
There is a rubber ring that goes on the top of the stat, and a housing gasket for, what else, the housing. I guess they call the ring a gasket since it works like one.
Young Ed
Correct it doesnt look like the napa ones but it works perfect. Its a modern thermostat with a brass adaptor and a rubber donut to seal it.
