MoparAl- Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Calling all electrical wizards ! Hi guys, fitted my bi-polarity 24 Led light bulbs yesterday and the result was good. But, i need to fit an electronic indicator flasher unit for the led bulb to flash and these only come in 6v negative earth. The supplier said to reverse battery, coil and ammeter wiring and all will be ok, i know that the clock and radio cant be connected but is there anything else i should do ? ta Alan. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 the clock cares nothing about polarity as it is stock form only an electromagnet winding mechanism.. Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) .......................................Later edit - this will work more or less but there is an easier way. See next post................. You will need to polarize the generator and reverse the connections on the coil. Then see what other problems show up. Pay someone 400 pounds to rip the guts out of your tube radio and stuff a 5 pound Chinese crap radio inside. In the end you may decide to throw the 24LED lights and flasher in the bin and go back to stock but think of all the fun you will have in the mean time. Rusty O'Toole Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) Your supplier is talking a load of rubbish. If all you want is to make the flasher work you don't need to change the whole car's electrical system. Take the flasher and isolate it. That means, mount in on an insulated mounting. Could be plastic, rubber, or any insulation material. Then connect it back to front, with the ground wire going to power and the power wire going to ground. That's it. Could be as easy as sticking the flasher in a plastic box or mounting on a piece of plastic sheet. Edited September 22, 2012 by Rusty O'Toole Quote
suntennis Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Some people that install LED lites for brake and turn lites use the original 6 volt flasher. The flasher used with LED lites will not do the job unless some additional resistance is added to the circuit. One way to add resistance is install one or two regular 6 volt bulbs in series to the circuit. The bulbs could be inside the car and just painted black so as to not be noticed. Such a setup would leave the remainder of the electric system untouched and not cost much. Quote
MoparAl- Posted September 24, 2012 Author Report Posted September 24, 2012 Rusty u got it in one, ive gone back to stock, blasted Led only worked one way with the indicators wired in, but both ways without, and to add to injury they were not that much better than before. Only way is stay stock or go 12v. End of. Quote
Big_John Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Tube radios don't care about polarity either. Quote
martybose Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Tube radios don't care about polarity either. .... IF they haven't been "upgraded" with digital vibrators, which are polarity sensitive. Marty Quote
Big_John Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 .... IF they haven't been "upgraded" with digital vibrators, which are polarity sensitive.Marty Marty... I'm laughing... I actually typed that and then decided it might just confuse things, so I deleted it. Of course, you can just get the proper polarity digital vibrator and you're all set. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 You'd think a vibrator would go both ways! Quote
