Young Ed Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 I finally got a new used door latch to replace the one in my 48 plymouth that went sproing and never locked again. I heard what sounded like something breaking and after that it wouldn't lock from either key or inside handle. Upon removing it I couldnt see anything broken but the lock piece of the mechanism seemed physically loose and the entire latch seemed out of square. When putting the new one in yesterday I noticed there is quite a gap between the door surface and the latch for the screw that goes in behind the door panel. Anyone else experienced this? For now I'm leaving that screw out before I wreck another latch. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 Can you slide a washer or some other shim between them and then tighten the screw? Get a kid with a small hand! Quote
Young Ed Posted September 20, 2012 Author Report Posted September 20, 2012 I'm more curious to know if this is what caused my other latch to fail or why this gap is there. This door also has a gap at the top when closed even though the rest of it is aligned nicely and you have to push the window out slightly to get it to roll up all the way. I think something may have happened to this door at some point. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 ... I think something may have happened to this door at some point. Maybe from the crash a few years ago? Maybe it's been tweeked since then but it wasn't noticed then? Merle Quote
