plyroadking Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 Picked it up because it has a brake drum on the rear so I'm assuming its mopar???? Any ideas??? Quote
1941Rick Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 With the long tail shaft and the linkage set up I would guess possbly GM...Ford...Packard or someting other than Mopar.... Quote
Roadkingcoupe Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 Picked it up because it has a brake drum on the rear so I'm assuming its mopar???? Any ideas??? Check the housing to see if it is a Borg Warner unit Next see if it has a model # embossed in the case R10? Check the solenoid for an autolite # Borg Warner made OD's for many manufacturers Quote
Paul Hoffmeyer Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 Brake drum almost guarantees it's Mopar, side cover says '57 or later. Probably not a bolt in for '56 or earlier. Paul H Quote
plyroadking Posted August 20, 2012 Author Report Posted August 20, 2012 If I recall correctly its a R10 unit, the solenoid is missing, I left it in CA as I didn't want to overload the '40 on the trip back to Iowa. My parents are bringing it out in a couple weeks. I was told it might fit in several dodge trucks? Or late 50's cars? Quote
DJ194950 Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 From VERY limited experience-- an R-10"G" fits mopar. The only other reference letter after the R-10 was an "H" fitting a Ford if my poor memory still serves me! Maybe many more! I'm asking?? I have posted this question on several mopar sites without response, about the Letter AFTER the R-10 means-Ford-Chevy- hudson- ETC. as these R-10 borg warner OD units where sold to almost ALL car mfg'ers as options. From what i have read Chrysler designed this OD, sold rights to build these to Borg Warner, who made them for any mfg. that wanted them! Time for someone else to step in with an R-10 OD history lesson?? I hope so!! Doug Quote
james curl Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 I turned one like it with the corresponding engine down at the Pate swap meet two years ago for $100.00 whole package, but talked another MoPar person who had a 34 coupe without engine to buy it. It will require a different shift box on the steering column much like an older Chevy in order to shift the transmission as both arms move to select gears. The reason I did not buy that and the engine mounts entirely different. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 according to my interchange guide the Ford use AR10 or 1AR10 series OD'swhere the suffix was E, F and later the AR11 series where the suffix would be 2H, 1N, 1H, 1K these are for years 1952 through 1961 Quote
DJ194950 Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 Seems ford aslo had an R-11 for high perf. motors with 3 sp. and OD. Have only seen this by googlin borg warner r-10 and sometimes parts etc. on ebay. Anyone with more info. would be appreciated! Would like to find a borg warner R-10 parts interchange and be able to build R-10 trans for chrysler flat motors from parts?? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 what I printed was compiled by Automotive Research Publications, INC..in 1964 and is thier list of interchange and substitiution..this is from section 1, model identification per make and model vehicle...actual interchange of parts is in next section..
