Ok I have a 41 Plymouth P12 Sedan. I really do love it. But as get older I want an automatic. So. If you were to replace this engine and transmission with a like PLYMOUTH engine and transmission, what year would you guys use. Not quite sure when automatic's first came out in the Plymouths, but I would certainly consider doing it on my car.

Please I already know I should leave it like it is or that I should just buy a Plymouth with a bigger engine and automatic tramsmission.

Thanks

your engine/tranny options are many..what is your preference?...you looking for an econmy running car or you planning on overbuilding it for the street...you have not given the audience enough information other than an automatic..you can put an automactic behind that flathead if you desire..you doing the work or farming it out???..lots of shops have a preset combo they like to deal with and may try to sway you in that direction..a bit of forum research here will get you a wide combination of engines and trannies that have been adapted to these old cars...some are pretty much documented..other are mentioned in passing but at least you know it was "once done"

there are also adapters made to fit a modern automatic to the flat 6, but you could start by looking for a 54 to 59 Plymouth or dodge with an automatic trans as a donor car.
