scottyv47 Posted July 26, 2012 Report Share Posted July 26, 2012 shot my first coat on the hood this morning, the gods have been with me, not a single run on the roof or the hood, and yes i can paint the car one piece at a time, or all together and it will match perfect, because when i get my paint, i buy an extra paint bucket, and mix all my paint a the same time then return it to the buckets, that way when i'm ready i shake, strain, and paint, all matching, a few flaws under the paint, but no runs, oh well i'm building it as a weekend cruiser, not a trailer queen, i have a strong belief in going out and having a good time in my cars, not propping them up like in a museium, why bother having them if you cant drive them!!! scottyv47 Posted July 26, 2012 Author Report Share Posted July 26, 2012 its actualy very easy as long as you have a good eye and a steady hand, i've painted most of my cars, i used to be alot more professional and careful about it, in a paint booth, and expencive paint, now a days not having those luguries i just do what i can with what i got, and i'll tell you if you look at my cars at the cruise ins they look just as good as the ones with the $5000 paint jobs, and who cares anyway, like i said i'm just there to have a good time, this is my midnite express clone, i painted it in the same place i'm painting this car, and applied the decals, and the oak, and built the motor, and it looks just as nice as any car out there (its a little dirty in the pic because i came straight from work to the cruise in and didn't have time to wash it) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

His is lacking the smoke stacks to replicate the true express truck look. Per wikipedia its this: The Midnite Express was painted black instead of red and featured a "Midnite Express Truck" decal on the door. Were those an updated version of the Little Red Express? midnite express's were a factory truck only made in 78 unlike lil red which were made in 78 and 79, there were much fewer made of the midnite express, half came with 4x4, and most came with a 440, like wikipedia says, (i actualy re wrote that, it said they all came with 360 like the lil red, which is 100% false) most came with 440's and some came with 318's, only a few came with 360 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

scottyv47 Posted July 27, 2012 Author Report Share Posted July 27, 2012 the hardest part of a backyard paint job is forcing yourself not to pick the bugs out of the paint, if you wait a week and hit the paint with the hose they just fall right off, no harm done, but you want so bad to pick them off as soon as you see them, which makes a big mess and leaves fingerprints in your paint no matter how careful you are !!!
