46busboys Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 OK another question. 1946 business coupe.......The only thing I tore out of the trunk was the rubber floor mat. Was there ever anything else installed? Like any side or back panels?? The plywood panel is still in perfect shape in front between the cabin and trunk. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) In my P15 parts manual, it lists (on P. 358) "Lining Luggage Compartment Side" right assembly and left assembly. It shows them for the 2 and 4 door sedans, club coupe and convertible. But not for the "3 Cpe", which is the business coupe. There was a cardboard liner item just behind the rear seat on those models, but the biz coupe was different as it has the rear storage and access area.**oops....see comment a few posts below. I think the side liners were a type of flexible material with a horsehair sort of thing underneath, which was glued to the inside of the fender wells and other places. If you look in an old original trunk, you can often see some of the fibers still in place after the covering is gone. I carpeted my trunk and made my own front and side liners from black art cardboard, covered with the same vinyl as my door panels. Not original, but wanted the trunk to look good. I tend to like to display various car related stuff at shows. Edited June 5, 2012 by BobT-47P15 Quote
46busboys Posted June 5, 2012 Author Report Posted June 5, 2012 what do you mean by "rear storage and access area"? Quote
greg g Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 My deluxe Business coupe had a fiberboard piece at the front of the trunk which covered the "X" brace and the painted plywood bulkhead. The material was similar to the piece that covered the interior shelf below the rear window. It is Black in color. That was the oly trim piece present beside the rubber trunk floor mat. I had gotten a bit ratty over the years so I removed it. Still have if stored behid one of my garage shelves. The interioe bulkhead below the package shelf has a 6 inch or so strip of Leatherette siilar to the panels on the bottom of the doors, and the rest was covered with a material that was the same as the bulk of the door panels (very similar to the headliner material) I think by rear storage area he is refering to the space behind the seatbacks and the trunk bulkh head. Plymouthy Adams Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 The Plymouth Bz Cp , at least my model has no access to the trunk area from the inside of the passenger compartment, simple access via the deck lid as in any standard car/coupe..only larger area. Even the 41 Dodge Bs Cp Ihave here does not have access from the front to the rear but behind the drivers side of the seat is the spare tire mount adn shallow well that is curtained and on the passenger side of this bulkhead is a locked compartment that is like a cubby box providing a larger locked storage area.. BobT-47P15 Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Well, I guess I thought you could get from the space behind the driver's seat on into the trunk area (access). Have never owned a biz coupe..... so it seems my comment is incorrect. Quote
1941Rick Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 My Biz coupe has access from the interior to the trunk via a door behind the passenger seat. Behind the drivers seat is the spare tire accessed from inside the passenger compartment. Some cars had shelves behind the driver and the spare was in the trunk. Quote
greg g Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Rick most of those nice things went away with the 42 and newer models. Quote
