furiousgeorge Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 How do they come out? I've got the nuts off, but it won't budge. I soaked it with WD, hammered on it, heated it up and did it all again, nothing. My manual has nothing about them. The studs have a slot, but neither move, and I don't want the wreck them any more then I already have. Any help? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 my block heater was basically a headbolt, is that how your is? Quote
furiousgeorge Posted May 15, 2012 Author Report Posted May 15, 2012 Nope, mine is like a modern one, in a frost plug hole on the drivers side of the block. Quote
55 Fargo Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 FG, drill some holes through it, and yank it out, would that work, I have removed these types, twisted them out. Quote
Mr Bee Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 Been a fewhile years but just in case you still remember...how did you get the block heater out....and if so, did you replace it with another one or put in a frost plug? Quote
furiousgeorge Posted April 16, 2018 Author Report Posted April 16, 2018 I just punched a hole through it and pried it out. I got another off a friends parts truck. 1 Quote
Mr Bee Posted April 18, 2018 Report Posted April 18, 2018 Would I be correct to assume that once you got it out you could have replaced it with a regular core (Welsh) plug? Or does the hole in the block look different once you get the block heater out? I'd like to remove mine and replace it with a regular plug. BTW. ...was it 110volts, 240 volts or 6 volt going to the heater? Quote
dpollo Posted April 20, 2018 Report Posted April 20, 2018 Each heater I have removed came out in pieces. Fortunately we have no need for block heaters where I am, so I replaced them with new core plugs .... P14.... I think the number is. 1 5/8. Don't use the more familiar cup type. The best way to put these in is to put the plug in the hole, put a hammer or broad drift over the plug then strike the hammer with another which tends to flatten the plug, making it expand around its circumference. ggdad1951 Posted April 20, 2018 Report Posted April 20, 2018 oddly, the block heater that came in my truck was a special head bolt....with a heating element...I should find it and post pics Quote
furiousgeorge Posted April 21, 2018 Author Report Posted April 21, 2018 I had one that was the head bolt type, and two that are regular frost plug ones. I assume it was a 110v? My 50 is a regular one that seems to work good off regular house power. Quote
Mr Bee Posted April 21, 2018 Report Posted April 21, 2018 Mine is a frost plug type for sure. No harm trying 110v on it since it's still in the block on my workbench. It should either not work, or work, or start to smoke! Quote
