FlyingDutchman Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Howdy! I was wondering who to use to have my exterior trim work, door handles, emblems, bezels, etc. to be rechromed? They have some fairly heavy pitting so I may need some new examples of each ultimately but for now 80% perfection is a OK with me! I would love to find some NOS exterior door handles or at least with minimal pits. I have a 48 sedan d24. I have had great luck in the past with Tri-City Auto Plating in TN for bumpers but they do not do smaller trim parts. If anyone has a clean front center bumper section I'd be game for that as well. I am OK with the blue-chroming of modern process. This car is a hot rod driver and not a 99 point restoration show car so US plating is fine. Thank you! -JV Quote
Bingster Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 I was told by somebody on this forum about this place he had his chrome done. Tallahassee Florida - Pot Metal Restoration Quote
greg g Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Place I used for bezels, stop light surrounds, bumper and gaurds, and repairing and polishing of stainless rocker trim. Pot metal items still looking good after 10 years. http://www.sandysbumpermart.com/ Quote
claybill Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 you are looking at heavy money to rechrome..and do the pits..very heavy. like 75 - 100 each.!!! look for used on ebay. or some of us may have what you need. i'll look. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 just make sure whereever you go, they don't just try to polish out the pits. A good salvagable part can be destroyed that way. Quote
claybill Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 that's right . they buff and buff and ruin the integrity and shape of the piece. i looked and i have several inside handles but no outside ones. bill Quote
FlyingDutchman Posted May 9, 2012 Author Report Posted May 9, 2012 My buddy powder coats, and they make a chrome-like finish. I may give that a whirl. This D-24's a survivor/driver so I'm not looking for perfection but I don't want to have my hand exfoliated every time I get in/out of the car Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 The big expense is the hand work of polishing and repairing. You can cut the cost by doing it yourself. Some chrome shops will strip the chrome and give the parts back to you to work on. Or, you can buy an outfit from Caswell Plating and do your own plating at home. I know someone who has one and it gives an excellent result. Quote
