glendale Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Hey have a pretty pressing question. My good friend works at a hot rod shop and they rebuilt a 218 for a guy well the distrubter that it originally had was junk. I have found him two more but they are longer. Any ideas where I can find the correct one. And what do I have? I am working on pics now. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 The 23" and 25" blocks use different length distributors. I bet you found 25" ones. I think I read on here a long time ago you can swap the shaft back to the short one. As we recently covered on here there isnt much that can be wrong with his original one that cant be fixed. If the bushing is worn it can be replaced. Quote
glendale Posted April 25, 2012 Author Report Posted April 25, 2012 on the old one the shaft was actually snapped long a go and welded back together in a fashion the my buddy says it cant be welded back together. and if he says he can't weld it back together i believe it must be pretty thrashed. Young Ed Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Ya if it was welded once already I'd be looking for a new one too. They aren't rare. Do you know what model # he's got? I've got a couple laying around. Quote
greg g Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Longer where??? There are a couple which have a deeper casting for the dist body. The 25 inch engines have a longer drive shaft but are interchangable when the shaft is changed. If the shafts are different length's then no they will not interchange. Quote
glendale Posted April 25, 2012 Author Report Posted April 25, 2012 as soon as i get pics ill post them.thanks! Quote
